BEAUTIFUL VIDA

In Europe there is a nation whose history reveals an old law, the »Institutio Sclavenica«. Under this law, a woman was free and equal to man. This nation, which ever since has shown respect for woman and recognized her role in society, is the Slovenes, like their predecessors the Carinthians, whose state was described as »Provincia Sclavorum« as early as 595 by Pavel Diakon.

The important role of women in the life of the Slovenes is also revealed in their folk tradition. In old balladas the image of women has been preserved without embellishment, reflecting not only the joyful and unhappy fates of women and maidens but also their courage in difficult moments of their lives.

This message is especially clear in Beautiful Vida, a unique picture of a young woman who hoping for happines and wealth is lured to a distant land. But in this alien world she weeps and desires to return, longing for her abandoned home, husband and child.

Beautiful Vida is an allegory of a young wife and mother, her wish for happiness as well as her disappointment and unfulfilled dreams. Her story reveals a sensitive heart and longing for home.
Such is the character of woman, who deserves the respect of society especially for her mission: she bears life, nurtures the young generation, and gives it enthusiasm in work and effort for new victories and the progress of mankind.

Let us then raise a glass to her, the one who ennobles our race and brings it the unmeasurable beauty of life!
